This year the coat of arms of Latvia will play the key role in the project of illumination of the Cabinet of Ministers’ building in the festival “Staro Rīga”. With the help of 3D animation both the history of the national symbol and the meaning of its elements will be told.
Elita Dreimane, Director of the State Chancellery: “From chronicles up to modern text books, the story about the harmony of carmine red and white and the words dressed in Si flat major “God, bless Latvia”, have become national symbols of the state. There is also the third symbol – more mystical, however as important as the other two – the coat of arms of Latvia. It was historically designed to unite the nation of Latvia but has been undeservedly neglected and little used. Therefore, the Cabinet of Ministers, continuing the tradition launched four years ago to tell in the projects of the light festival about the values of the state, – this year will tell the story about the coat of arms of Latvia”.
Contemporary literature contains little information about the coat of arms of the state of Latvia. The available information is scarce and incomplete. Also the period of occupation has not spared it. Therefore, when developing the project of illumination of the building of the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Chancellery in cooperation with heraldic experts tried to put together the historical facts, which are unknown to the general public, to create a simple and humane story about the coat of arms of Latvia.
We also call on the residents to participate in the implementation of the project of illumination of the Cabinet of Ministers’ building. From November 10-14, the State Chancellery will organize a competition in the social networking account Twitter @Brivibas36 where everyone will have the opportunity to test knowledge about the coat of arms of the state of Latvia.
This year the supporters of the illumination project are LDz Cargo Ltd and Lattelecom Ltd, which have confirmed the need to develop projects on national values for the public.
The State Chancellery is participating in the light festival “Staro Rīga” with the projects of illumination of the Cabinet of Ministers’ building for already the fourth year. In the previous three years the projects were carried out about the flag of the state of Latvia (2011), about the most outstanding personalities of our state (1012) and about freedom and its manifestations(2013). This year the festival of lights will take place for five days – from November 14 – 18, every evening from 18:00 – 23:00.
